We are excited to announce that we are again recruiting new analysts at USV. As is tradition, analysts at USV join our firm for a two-year “tour of duty,” where they sit on the investment team and work closely with partners both on current portfolio and potential new investments. They gain exposure to our large network of startup and growth companies, as well as insight into our investment decision process. In this cycle, we are planning to fill up to three positions. All three positions will be based out of our office in New York City. Read on for more details on how to apply, and please share this post with any friends or colleagues who might be interested in applying.
Our analyst program is structured as an apprenticeship model. What does that mean? You will work mostly with two or three partners at the firm, one of whom will be primarily responsible for your training. The first analyst will be working primarily with Albert, the second primarily with Rebecca and the third with Gillian. You will also have lots of exposure and work with John, Fred, Brad, Nick, and Andy as well as Bethany, Lauren, and Matt on our Network team. This round, we will be delivering a curriculum of skills we want to be sure the entire team learns as they enter the program. The components will be taught by USV team members and/or friends of the firm.
Our intent behind the two-year rotational structure of this program is to enable participants to soak up as much as possible at USV, then empower you to navigate on to your next opportunity, either in or out of the portfolio.. Past analysts have gone on to join other venture/investment firms and even start their own (Andrew, Charlie, Jacqueline, Joel), work at USV portfolio companies (Jonathan, Eric), help launch new products (Christina, Brian) and start their own companies (Zander, Jennifer, Christina).
This also means that our cycle is coming to an end for our current 3 analysts, Zach, Dani and Naomi. These three have been incredible contributors to the USV team. We can’t wait to see where they all go from here and we hope that they always view USV as a home base.
What are we looking for in candidates? We are looking for people who share our enthusiasm for innovation and working with entrepreneurs from the earliest days. More than any particular background, we look for candidates who are intellectually curious, have strong analytical and communication skills, thrive off of new ideas and can push our thinking. Candidates should have demonstrated a high level of initiative in a prior activity and have at least 2 years of work experience. We are hoping for candidates from a myriad of diverse backgrounds and professions.
How do you apply?
Our process starts with having candidates answer questions by recording videos and submitting short written pieces @ http://usv.com/analyst2020. These will be due by Friday, December 13. All applicants should use this form.
From the initial submissions, we’ll select a smaller group for phone/video interviews and then a set of finalists for in-person meetings. We currently expect the process to be finished by mid-January and candidates should be available to start work sometime between January and March.
We’re beyond excited to kick off applications for our next cohort of analysts. We believe this process is one of the elements that makes USV unique and keeps fresh ideas flowing in and out of the investment team. We hope you’ll consider applying.
